Coming Soon: Do Angels Need Haircuts?
On what would have been Lou Reed’s 76th birthday, we’re proud to announce Do Angels Need Haircuts? – a window to a little-known chapter in the life of one of the most uncompromising voices in American popular culture. In 1970, 28-year-old Reed quit the Velvet Underground and moved home to Long Island to embark on a fascinating alternate creative path: poetry. Coming in April, this book, the first to be produced by the Lou Reed Archive, gathers poems, rare poetry zine images, and photographs from the era by Mick Rock, Moe Tucker, and more. Included with the book is a 7” record of previously unreleased audio of the 1971 St. Mark’s Church reading.
